Position Summary
Cambrian College’s Teaching and Learning Innovation Hub has an immediate requirement for a Senior Instructional Designer on a leave replacement basis until December 2025.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide guidance, coordination, and direction to some members of the Instructional Design Team including scheduling of work assignments and projects.
- Collaborates with subject matter experts (primarily faculty), educational developer, graphic designer, and eLearning team to design hybrid and fully online courses that are active and engaging
- Applies expertise in pedagogy and consults with faculty on online teaching strategies, including instructional materials, learning activities, and assessment strategies
- Provides guidance and assists subject matter experts with preparing course material for online, hybrid, or hyflex deliveries
- Designs instructional content based on information provided by the subject matter expert and the capabilities of Cambrian’s LMS (Moodle)
- Applies instructional design principles that comply with AODA requirements
- Acts as an intake coordinator for instructional design-related requests for service and coordinating details of large-scale instructional design projects
- Creates mapping and design documents, storyboards, recommendations documents, and other required documentation
- Writes audio and video scripts for instructional multimedia
- Ensures courses meet quality standards as outlined in the Quality Criteria for Digital/Online Learning
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of learning theory, technology and best practices in online course design and development
- Coordinates necessary meetings with the subject matter expert (e.g., creating high-level content structure, content documents, recommendations documents, storyboards, etc.)
- Provides updates on project progress and proactively identifies risks for potential delays by using recognized project management strategies and techniques
- Develops and facilitates learning opportunities for faculty related to online learning, independently or in conjunction with internal partners
- Presents at external events and/or conferences
Qualifications
Required
- A minimum of a three-year diploma plus professional certification, or equivalent. (A copy of educational documents must be submitted with application *** education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES or ICAS with their application).
- Must have Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Technology-based learning training, or a related course with a strong focus on technology-enabled learning.
- Minimum of three years of experience working with learning management systems, and web-based authoring tools related to education and training.
- Experience in managing projects utilizing a variety of tools as well as coordinating large-scale project tasks with relevant team members.
- Experience applying the requirements of Ontario AODA legislation to the creation of educational materials.
- Experience creating course outlines, assessment strategies and teaching college-level students.
- Excellent communication (both written and oral) and interpersonal skills.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated diplomacy and tact.
- Must be a self-starter with strong organizational and time-management skills and the ability to multi-task.
- Commitment to working within a team environment.
