Mechanical / HVAC Estimator
About The Role
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical / HVAC Estimator to join our growing Estimating Department. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical systems, and NFPA codes, along with excellent communication and organizational skills.
The successful candidate should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects, and adapting to changing project requirements. This role requires strong attention to detail and the ability to develop accurate, competitive estimates while collaborating with vendors, subcontractors, project teams, and other stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Attend job site walkthroughs and pre-bid meetings.
Prepare detailed material and labor take-offs.
Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotations for proposals.
Review project data, drawings, and specifications to determine material and labor requirements.
Prepare detailed, itemized cost estimates.
Calculate labor, material, equipment, and other cost factors for project estimates and bids.
Prepare estimates to support project planning, scheduling, vendor/subcontractor selection, and cost-effectiveness analysis.
Conduct cost studies and develop standard labor-hour and cost data.
Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvements.
Collaborate with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams to discuss estimates and resolve project-related issues.
Work with internal stakeholders to obtain the information and support required to develop accurate cost estimates.
Maintain and contribute to a centralized cost-estimating database.
Utilize historical project data to improve the accuracy of future estimates.
Analyze completed projects by comparing estimated costs against actual costs and identifying discrepancies.
Recommend improvements to estimating procedures to reduce variances between estimated and actual project costs.
Monitor cost trends and provide recommendations to support cost reduction and process improvement.
Thoroughly review and interpret RFPs, RFQs, drawings, specifications, and other bid documents.
Prepare accurate and timely proposals in accordance with project requirements.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with relevant experience, or 1-2 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, construction documents, and project specifications.
Strong understanding of HVAC and mechanical systems.
Familiarity with HVAC piping and NFPA codes.
Experience With QuickPen Estimating Software Preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
Strong analytical, mathematical, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
Valid driver's license.
