About the role
Uproot is hiring a hands-on General Manager to help lead day-to-day cannabis operations and growth across our Worcester/Central Massachusetts business, including Magic Dragon.
This is an operator role, not a corporate desk job. We need someone who can make the business run better every week: tighten inventory and purchasing, improve menu/category performance, support delivery execution, build operating systems, help manage people, and identify new growth opportunities.
This is also a hands-on frontline role when needed. The GM should be willing to jump into delivery/customer operations, inventory work, order flow, vendor coordination, or other day-to-day execution when that is what the business needs.
The right person has real cannabis industry experience, strong operational discipline, and enough commercial judgment to balance compliance, customer experience, margin, and speed. You should be comfortable moving between the floor, the menu, vendors, inventory, delivery operations, manufacturing priorities, and weekly KPI reviews.
What you'll own
- Day-to-day cannabis operations across inventory, purchasing, menu/category performance, vendor coordination, and customer experience
- Magic Dragon growth and service quality, including delivery operations, customer recovery, order flow, promotions, and local market execution
- Frontline coverage when needed, including occasional delivery/customer operations support and hands-on order execution
- Inventory discipline: intake, audits, aging product, sell-through, menu accuracy, pricing, bundles, margin, and reorder decisions
- Buying/category management: product mix, vendor relationships, wholesale opportunities, customer education, and promotional strategy
- Operating systems: SOPs, staff accountability, checklists, reporting, and weekly cadence around the numbers
- Team leadership: hiring support, onboarding, scheduling input, training, coaching, and performance follow-through
- Manufacturing-adjacent execution, including coordination around production priorities, packaging, edibles/kitchen opportunities, and future brand development
- Compliance-minded execution under Massachusetts cannabis regulations and company policies
- Direct partnership with ownership on priorities, experiments, reporting, and growth strategy
What we're looking for
- Meaningful hands-on cannabis industry experience, ideally in Massachusetts
- Experience in cannabis retail, delivery, inventory, manufacturing, wholesale, buying/category management, or operations
- Strong understanding of how cannabis menus, vendors, inventory, margins, compliance, and customer demand fit together
- Ability to manage people and processes without needing a perfect corporate playbook
- Comfort using KPIs and weekly operating rhythms to improve the business
- Strong communication, judgment, and follow-through
- Willingness to cover delivery/customer operations or other frontline work when needed
- Ability to work primarily in or around Worcester/Central Massachusetts
Nice to have
- Experience with METRC, Dutchie, LeafLink, BioTrack, Jane, Flowhub, Alpine IQ, or similar cannabis/commercial systems
- Experience with cannabis delivery, dispatch, retail operations, menu/category management, or wholesale/vendor relationships
- Experience in cannabis production, kitchen, edibles, packaging, or manufacturing environments
- Prior responsibility for P&L, labor planning, purchasing, inventory controls, category performance, or weekly operating dashboards
- Familiarity with Central Massachusetts cannabis customers, retailers, brands, and local communities
Who this is not for
This is probably not the right role if you want a pure brand ambassador job, a pure social media role, a fully remote strategy position, or a management role that never touches frontline execution. We are looking for someone who wants ownership, accountability, and hands-on operating responsibility.
Why join
This is an opportunity to help shape a growing cannabis business at a stage where one strong operator can make a visible impact. You will work directly with ownership, build systems that last, and help define what winning cannabis delivery, retail/category execution, and manufacturing growth can look like in Central Massachusetts.
Compensation
$60,000–$80,000 base salary, depending on experience and final scope, plus performance-based upside tied to measurable growth, margin, inventory discipline, service quality, and operational goals.
