Job Summary
The Director of Clinical Nursing (DOCN) directly supervises nursing care and all related activities of the Cataract & Laser Center (CLC) per the policies and objectives of the center such that CLC provides a safe, efficient, and compliant environment for patients, staff, and surgeons.
The DOCN plays a key role in staffing, training, quality improvement and overseeing the daily clinical operations. He or she analyzes and evaluates nursing services to improve the quality care given and maintains policies that adhere to federal and state regulations for Ambulatory Surgery Centers. All Cataract and Laser Center staff are to maintain a positive and professional attitude and collaborate as a team with both colleagues and management to uphold a supportive and respectful atmosphere for both patients and staff.
Responsibilities
· Oversee the training of all clinical staff (MA, LPN, RN, Sterile Tech, Surgical Tech)
· Prepare and provide all learning materials for staff, this includes scheduling Stericycle in-services, ACLS, BLS, etc.
· Prepare and provide educational materials for required competencies.
· Monitor and sign off staff for required competencies.
· Oversee all surgical/medical equipment (preventative maintenance, repairs)
· Oversee sharps management/medical waste pick-up.
· Work alongside the Anesthesia department to ensure optimal patient care.
· Infection control resource. Work with consultant.
· Maintain up to date formulary.
· Assist with monthly infection control log i.e. sharps safety, hand hygiene, infection control.
· Prepare physicians infections/complications monthly report.
· Maintain availability as a resource for person for staff.
· Maintain availability as a resource for the surgeons.
· Oversee the flow of the surgical center. This includes but is not limited to: Decrease patient wait time, efficient processing of patients, following preferred flow of surgeon, assisting in all areas, providing breaks to staff, etc.
· Modify schedule as needed to maintain efficient flow on surgical days.
· Assist in preparation of the surgical schedule.
· Prepare monthly nursing assignments. Adjusting schedule to meet needs of surgical day. Adding staff when necessary, canceling per diem staff when appropriate, covering call outs and vacations and ensuring full-time clinical staff are assigned appropriate tasks beneficial to the CLC properly utilizing their time on nonsurgical days.
· Provide pertinent in-services for staff.
· Assist in preparation and presentations of staff meeting.
· Maintain log and follow through with patient cancellations and transfers.
· Pharmacological resources. Work with PhD – consultant.
· Maintain up to date formulary.
· Oversee medication and lens ordering.
· Attend and participate in manager’s meetings.
· Resolve patient grievances and complaints in a timely manner.
· Prepare and participate in AAAHC survey. Plan to participate in any corrective actions.
· Prepare and participate in disaster preparedness.
· Attending pertinent conferences.
· Prepare and perform initial orientation for new staff.
· Assist in preparation and updating of Policy and procedures.
· Assists the Center Administrator with payroll and staffing issues, concerns, or flow.
· Works alongside the Center Administrator to assist in keeping the center running efficiently.
Qualifications
- Strong background in nursing administration with demonstrated supervising experience and nurse management skills.
- Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anatomy.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems for documentation and medical records management.
- Experience working with Medicare regulations and understanding of reimbursement processes.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams effectively while maintaining compliance with HIPAA privacy standards.
- Excellent communication skills with a focus on leadership development and staff supervision.
- Knowledge of shift management strategies to optimize staffing efficiency across various shifts.
- Registered Nursing License/ACLS Certification.
Pay: $80,876.37 - $115,000.00 per year
