MCE Dirtworks, Inc. is a Cape Cod-based heavy construction and paving company serving municipal, commercial, and residential clients. Our work includes asphalt paving, roadway and civil construction, larger commercial site work, excavation, grading, drainage, septic-related site work, demolition, utility-related work, and related site development projects throughout Cape Cod and Southeastern Massachusetts.
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager / Field Superintendent to help schedule, organize, coordinate, and execute multiple projects from planning through completion. This is a hands-on field and office role for someone who understands construction operations and can coordinate crews, equipment, materials, trucking, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, engineers, customers, and awarding authorities.
Experience with civil, municipal, roadway, paving, heavy highway, MassDOT, and commercial site work is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
· Schedule, organize, and coordinate multiple paving, civil, municipal, roadway, commercial site work, excavation, drainage, septic-related site work, demolition, grading, and related site development projects.
· Coordinate daily and weekly crew assignments, manpower needs, equipment needs, materials, trucking, subcontractors, vendors, purchase orders, and project priorities.
· Work directly with ownership, foremen, field crews, engineers, inspectors, municipal representatives, awarding authorities, commercial customers, residential customers, vendors, subcontractors, and office staff.
· Review project scopes, estimates, contracts, blueprints, site plans, specifications, bid documents, schedules, and field conditions.
· Assist with project startup, including submittals, buyout, material planning, subcontractor coordination, and schedule setup.
· Participate in estimating, bidding, scope review, and project handoff as needed.
· Develop, maintain, and communicate project schedules for crews, customers, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and internal stakeholders.
· Monitor project progress, production, job costs, schedule performance, quality, safety, risks, delays, and required follow-up.
· Review job cost information, production trends, and field performance to identify issues and recommend improvements to crew productivity, equipment utilization, quality, and schedule performance.
· Monitor project costs, production, quantities, and job profitability, and communicate issues or improvement opportunities to ownership.
· Promote and reinforce jobsite safety protocols, quality standards, traffic control expectations, and proper field procedures.
· Support change order identification, documentation, pricing, and submission.
· Assist with draft requisitions, pay requisitions, progress billing, retainage, quantity reconciliation, certified payroll coordination, and project closeout documentation.
· Maintain and review daily field reports, crew notes, tickets, quantities, subcontractor work, materials, trucking, and production information to support payroll, billing, job costing, and project tracking.
· Help resolve field issues related to scope, schedule, manpower, materials, equipment utilization, weather, safety, quality, site conditions, inspectors, and customer requirements.
· Support field supervisors and foremen in maintaining crew productivity, jobsite organization, and adherence to company standards.
· Maintain organized project documentation, including contracts, change orders, permits, plans, submittals, tickets, correspondence, daily notes, and billing support.
· Other duties as assigned.
QualificationsCore Experience
· Minimum 5 years of relevant construction experience preferred.
· Prior experience with civil construction, municipal/public projects, roadway work, asphalt paving, commercial site work, excavation, drainage, grading, utilities, septic-related site work, demolition, or site development a must.
· Experience with heavy highway, MassDOT, municipal roadway, asphalt paving, or civil infrastructure work is strongly preferred.
· Prior experience as a Project Manager, Field Superintendent, Working Foreman, Assistant Project Manager, Estimator, or Operations Coordinator preferred.
Field & Project Execution
· Strong understanding of field operations, construction sequencing, crew coordination, equipment utilization, materials, subcontractor management, trucking, and jobsite execution.
· Experience working with engineers, inspectors, municipal representatives, public awarding authorities, commercial customers, and residential customers preferred.
· Familiarity with OSHA, MUTCD, traffic control, and public worksite safety standards is preferred.
· Strong communication and reporting skills with field crews, foremen, customers, vendors, subcontractors, inspectors, engineers, ownership, and office staff.
· Strong organization, follow-through, attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and ability to manage multiple active projects in a fast-paced seasonal construction environment.
Plans, Quantities, Cost & Documentation
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints, site plans, specifications, contracts, scopes of work, bid documents, and project requirements.
· Experience supporting quantity review, change order pricing, cost tracking, billing support, or job profitability review is preferred.
· Familiarity with municipal/public project documentation, including pay requisitions, retainage, certified payroll coordination, submittals, change orders, quantities, tickets, and closeout requirements, is strongly preferred.
Technology & Software
· Experience using Trimble, GPS, layout, takeoff, or project measurement tools preferred.
· Familiarity with FieldPulse or similar field service, construction operations, scheduling, or project tracking software preferred.
· Comfortable using Microsoft Office, PDFs, project tracking tools, and construction-related software.
Licenses & Certifications
· Valid driver's license required.
· Must be able to work outdoors in active construction environments and varying weather conditions.
· OSHA 10, OSHA 30, Hoisting License, CDL, Construction Supervisor License, or other relevant certifications are a plus.
Pay: $85,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
