Position Summary
Cambrian College School of Nursing has an immediate requirement for (20) twenty Clinical Practice Nurse Clinicians for the Nursing, Practical Nursing, and Personal Support Worker programs for 24 hours per week on a regular part-time basis.
Note: Internal candidates, as defined by the Part-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement, will be given first consideration.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following in the above noted Programs:
- Supervise, monitor and evaluate students in the clinical placement component of the practicum course and ultimately determine the student’s outcome
- Assign the students patient assignments that provide appropriate learning experiences that require the use of critical thinking skills and accurate judgements within an environment that is physically and intellectually demanding and that meets course learning outcomes during their clinical experience
- Provide and facilitate student learning experiences across acute care, long-term care, community simulated, and laboratory settings by selecting appropriate client assignments, reinforcing course expectations and supporting the application of theory to practice
- Orient students to clinical placement sites, including policies, procedures, and professional practice standards, while promoting safe, ethical and evidence informed nursing care
- Maintain effective, respectful and collaborative relationships with students, health care teams, clients and families and medical staff to foster a positive and supportive learning environment
- Supervise and monitor ongoing client care provided by students by utilizing set educational guidelines, policies and procedures of the clinical agency/sim environment and educational institution, and Guidelines for Professional Standards
- Work collaboratively with College staff and other degree nurse clinicians to determine and implement an effective learning environment
- Assess, evaluate and report on students performance in giving client care by adhering to the learning outcome criteria and using established forms and evaluation tools
- Record and oversee student clinical placement performance and sharing the written notes with students, providing feedback and clarification where needed
Qualifications
Required:
- A Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing is required. (A copy of educational documents must be submitted with application *** education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES or ICAS with their application).
- All candidates must be currently registered in good standing or eligible to register with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Valid CPR and First Aid (HCP).
- Flexibility in hours.
- Recent practical experience with a minimum of (5) five years in an acute care or long-term care setting.
- Ability to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others and function effectively within a team environment.
- Ability to provide leadership and mentorship and be an effective role model in the classroom.
- Ability to work with students from diverse educational, religious, and cultural backgrounds.
- Solid commitment to students and education.
- Excellent written communication skills and exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer literacy and effective critical thinking and organizational skills.
