Balanced Rock Investment Advisors is a Boston-based fee-only wealth management and financial planning firm with a focus on values-based investing. We work with clients across a wide range of income and asset levels with the goal of providing quality fiduciary advisory services to anyone who needs them. We are a growing firm with opportunities for advancement.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Trader / Investment Analyst to take ownership of trade execution and portfolio analytics across our client accounts. This role is well suited to a detail-oriented professional who enjoys the technical and quantitative side of portfolio management and wants meaningful exposure to the investment process at a growing fiduciary firm.
What You'll Do
- Execute equity, ETF, mutual fund, and fixed-income trades across client accounts in Orion Eclipse.
- Run model-based rebalances, raise cash for distributions, invest contributions, and conduct tax-loss harvesting.
- Coordinate with Charles Schwab on settlement, corrective trades, ACATs, journals, and money movement.
- Monitor portfolios for drift, allocation breaches, concentration, restricted holdings, and tax-sensitive positions.
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative research on securities, ETFs, mutual funds, and managers, consistent with our values-based investment guidelines.
- Reconcile holdings and performance data in Orion and assist with client performance reporting.
- Support compliance — best execution review, trade allocation, personal trading, and books-and-records.
- Streamline trading workflows, reduce operational risk, and document procedures so the firm scales cleanly.
What We're Looking For
- Several years' experience in a trading, operations, or analyst role at an RIA, broker-dealer, or asset manager.
- Hands-on experience with Orion Eclipse (or comparable OMS/rebalancer such as iRebal, tRx, or BlackDiamond Rebalancer).
- Experience working with Charles Schwab as custodian (or comparable: Fidelity, Pershing).
- Series 65 (or equivalent) required at time of hire, or must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in finance, economics, accounting, mathematics, statistics, or a related quantitative field.
- Advanced Excel skills; comfort manipulating large data sets and building screens/models.
- Sharp attention to detail; strong written and verbal communication; ability to work independently in a remote-first setup.
- Progress toward CFA or CFP and exposure to Python/SQL/VBA are a plus.
Work Environment
Primarily remote, with a minimum of 1 day per week at our office in the Roslindale neighborhood of Boston. During onboarding and training, additional in-office days per week may be required.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary of $70,000 - $80,000 depending on experience and qualifications, an annual bonus opportunity, 401(k) with 6% employer contribution, health insurance (PPO, HSA compatible), dental insurance, and life and disability insurance. Approximately 4 weeks of paid time off in addition to standard paid holidays.
