About the Role
The Wellesley Housing Authority (WHA) is hiring a Maintenance Laborer I to support day-to-day building and grounds maintenance across our residential properties. This is a hands-on position ideal for someone looking to build a long-term career in maintenance or facilities work within a stable public-sector organization.
You’ll work alongside experienced maintenance staff, gain exposure to multiple trades, and play an important role in keeping our properties safe, clean, and well-maintained for residents.
What You’ll Do
- Perform janitorial, cleaning, and basic maintenance tasks
- Assist with painting, minor repairs, and routine upkeep
- Maintain grounds, landscaping, and common areas
- Perform snow removal, plowing support, and weather-related duties
- Use hand tools and power equipment safely
- Assist senior staff with basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and appliance work
- Follow all safety procedures and maintenance protocols
- Participate in rotating on-call and after-hours emergency coverage
What We’re Looking For
- Ability to perform physical work (lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, climbing ladders, working outdoors)
- Willingness to learn and take direction
- Strong work ethic and attention to safety
- Ability to read and follow written instructions in English
- Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Maintenance, custodial, or groundskeeping experience preferred (but not required)
- Ability to obtain a hoisting license within 12 months
Schedule & Pay
- Pay: $31.89/hour (State DL&I wage rate)
- Schedule:
- Mon–Thu: 7:00 AM–4:00 PM
- Fri: 7:30 AM–2:00 PM
- Full-time, 40 hours/week
- Rotating on-call and weather emergency response required
