Position Summary
Cambrian College’s Pathways, Partnerships, and Professional Learning requires a full time Academic Success Advisor.
Note: Internal candidates, as defined by the Full-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement, will be given first consideration.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide advising services to students across all academic programs as well as to Continuing Education and Part-time students.
- Act as a key point of contact between students, internal services, faculty and administration to provide advising on topics; registration, requirements to graduate, timetables, PLAR, transfer credits, GPA calculations, pathway opportunities and academic policies.
- Provide intrusive advising for at-risk students on a regular basis to develop goals, create individualized plans, and track progress
- Organizes and facilitates regular meetings with the faculty, coordinators, Chairs and Deans to learn about student issues and discuss ways to support student success.
- Communicates regularly with admissions staff, Enrolment Service Advisors, post secondary program coordinators, Chairs and Deans to ensure up-to-date knowledge of program requirements.
- Contact and advise students in person and/or via phone, email, and other online tools, including social media platforms.
- Develops and implements best practices with student services across the college to provide continuous improvement to seamless student support.
- Plans and executes internal and external activities to support and promote Academic Advising services several times each semester.
Qualifications
- Four-year postsecondary diploma or degree or equivalent in Education, Psychology, or Social Work. (A copy of educational documents must be submitted with application *** education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES or ICAS with their application).
- Three years of experience in an environment supporting clients/students of all ages who have barriers to employment and/or education.
- Must have demonstrated excellence in customer service, sound knowledge of the programs and skill sets within the Academic Schools, and experience in academic advising.
- Ability to act as an effective role model for students.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to exercise tact and good judgment.
- Collaborative professional who promotes teamwork and works cohesively within a team-oriented environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook).
