Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of the School Principal and/or Assistant Principal, the Intermittent Cafeteria Helper will provide supervision to students, assistance to students and staff in the cafeteria as appropriate.
Intermittent Cafeteria Helpers report to the School Principal and Assistant Principal of the assigned school. All Cafeteria helpers will take direction from the Food Service Director, Assistant Director or designee.
All Intermittent Cafeteria Helpers work on an as needed basis and may be needed for one day, one week or one month. The need for an Intermittent Cafeteria Helper will vary from day-to-day and week-to-week and, as such, we cannot guarantee work each day.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities

- Performs tasks requiring an ordinary degree of skill in the preparation and serving of food as well as other tasks required for the operation and sanitary maintenance of a food service facility or area.
- Prepares vegetables and other foods for cooking.
- Makes soups and other simple hot foods, sandwich fillings, salad dressing, and simple desserts.
- Prepares sandwiches and salads.
- Operates electrical equipment such as mixers, potato peelers, slicing machines, dishwashers, and toasters.
- Sets up serving counters, dishes up and serves food from steam tables, and other foods, including such items as candy and fruit, from the counter.
- Responsible for maintaining general cleanliness of eating area.
- Collects and washes dishes, silver and cooking utensils, and puts them away.
- Sweeps floors, cleans counters and tables, and counter and kitchen equipment, such as food containers, trays, cooking ranges, garbage cans, and refrigerators.
- Receives and checks deliveries of food and other supplies.
- Stores foods properly in refrigerators and storeroom.
- Keeps stores in good order.
- Assists in the taking of inventories of supplies.
- Cashiering
- Keeps simple records.
- Performs tasks in the preparation and packaging of meals as well as other tasks required for the operation and sanitary maintenance of a food processing facility.
- Cleans all food processing equipment and processing areas.
- Performs related work as required by Director of Food and Nutrition Services or his/her designee.

- Mobility: Frequent walking, standing, and navigating stairs.
- Lifting/Strength: Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects ranging from 10 to 30 lbs (e.g., supplies, equipment).
- Physical Dexterity: Bending, crouching, kneeling, stooping, and reaching to assist students.
- Stationary Tasks: Remaining in a stationary position (sitting/standing) for long periods.

Terms of Employment
- Position Type: Intermittent / As needed
- School Schedule: Monday - Friday / Maximum of up to 19 hours per week
- FLSA Classification: Non Exempt
- Compensation: $20.25 per hour
