Description:
The Allston-Science and Engineering Complex's Molecular and Cellular Biology core provides access to biologically relevant resources, including access to instruments, technologies, services, and expertise. The research core is committed to bolstering research capacities, enhancing and expanding collaborative capabilities, and accelerating discovery and translation by aiming to support and facilitate faculty, students, and staff in their research. This position provides hands-on experience working with researchers and maintaining the core's analytical equipment. You will learn how to maintain and troubleshoot equipment and train researchers on equipment best practices. The student specialist to learn how to manage lab space. No prior experience is necessary, but having biology experience, including the use of an LC-MS, is preferred.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
- Space safety orientation
- Basic equipment training and orientation
- Solvent solution preparation
- Inventory tracking
- Equipment and lab bench clean up periodically
- Managing equipment billing using established reservation software in conjunction with our finance team
- Communicate with users in-person and via email, policies and procedures related to the core
Additional Duties:
- Ordering equipment, materials, and supplies for the MCB core and Science Operations
- Creating outreach and marketing materials
Basic Qualifications:
- Able to work 6-14 hours per week, split between 2-4 days
- Hours will be flexible, but the ability to maintain at least a one day a week minimum commitment will be key
- Strong verbal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Additional Qualifications:
- Prefer working knowledge of LC-MS, plate readers, or similar biological equipment
