Compensation: Codman Academy Charter Public School follows a compensation scale based on years of direct experience. 1 year experience starts at $60,000 and 16 years of experience starting at $110,444.
Position Overview
Codman Academy Charter Public School is seeking a dynamic and strategic Athletic Director to lead, organize, and oversee the school’s K–12 athletic program. The Athletic Director is responsible for the overall administration, supervision, compliance, and growth of Codman’s athletic programming, ensuring alignment with MIAA regulations, academic expectations, and the school’s mission.
This position plays a critical leadership role in building school culture, promoting student-athlete success, and strengthening community engagement around Codman Cobras athletics.
The Athletic Director reports to the Head of School and collaborates closely with Principals, the Chief of Staff, coaches, and community partners.
This is an exempt position that includes evening, weekend, and occasional holiday responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Athletic Program Leadership
Provide vision and strategic direction for the K–12 athletic program.
Oversee and evaluate all coaches annually.
Ensure student-athletes meet academic eligibility and medical requirements.
Promote strong sportsmanship, leadership, and character development.
Lead Captain’s Council and student-athlete leadership initiatives.
Coordinate mandatory preseason parent meetings for each sport.
Organize workshops for athletes on sportsmanship, wellness, drug and alcohol education, harassment prevention, and fair play.Compliance & Governance
Ensure full compliance with all MIAA, DESE, and applicable NCAA regulations.
Complete and submit all required forms, reporting, and eligibility documentation.
Represent Codman at league, state, and regional athletic meetings.
Maintain accurate student-athlete records and award tracking.
Oversee safety and security protocols for athletic events and facilities.
Operations & Logistics
Develop and manage the annual athletic budget.
Oversee purchasing, bidding, and distribution of uniforms, equipment, and supplies.
Schedule games, practices, facilities, officials, transportation, and timekeepers.
Coordinate bus transportation efficiently to minimize cost.
Collaborate with Operations to ensure safe and well-maintained facilities.
Manage field, gym, and shared space scheduling.
School Culture & Community Engagement
Serve as liaison between athletics, school leadership, families, and community partners.
Promote Codman Cobras athletics across the school and community.
Coordinate Athletic Council meetings (minimum three annually).
Partner with Advancement and Communications to elevate visibility of athletics.
Support athletic recruitment and student engagement initiatives.
Other duties as assigned.
QualificationsRequired
Massachusetts DESE Licensure as Supervisor/Director or Administrator (or ability to obtain).
Minimum three years of school leadership or athletic administration experience.
Teaching and/or coaching experience.
Demonstrated organizational, educational leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred
Experience in an urban charter school setting.
Experience managing K–12 athletic programming.
Familiarity with MIAA compliance systems and reporting.
Experience in budget development and financial oversight.
Strong commitment to equity in athletics participation.
