SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) is a key member of a multidisciplinary treatment team, responsible for providing psychiatric evaluations, developing individualized treatment plans, prescribing and managing medications, and supporting patients in their recovery from substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. This role includes knowledge of specialty medication processes and behavioral health best practices.
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, including the review of past treatment history, medical records, and the Massachusetts Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP).
- Formulate and implement evidencebased treatment plans, with appropriate clinical justification and documentation.
- Prescribe and manage psychiatric and addictionrelated medications
- Order and interpret laboratory tests as clinically indicated.
- Provide patient education on medication, health promotion, disease prevention, and recovery strategies.
- Conduct quarterly BSAS required health specific focus groups for SOAP clients
- Collaborate closely with other healthcare providers, clinical staff, and case managers to ensure integrated, patientcentered care.
- Participate in ongoing case reviews, with a focus on behavioral health and complex addiction medicine cases.
- Utilize the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system efficiently for documentation and communication.
- Contribute to peer review processes, including annual Medication Peer Reviews.
- Maintain uptodate knowledge of prior authorization processes and requirements for specialty medications.
- Participate in team meetings, training, and quality improvement activities.
- Perform additional duties assigned by leadership.
- 2 years of experience, preferably in rehabilitation, recovery, or detox setting.
- Must possess a valid MA driver’s license.
- Must be able to pass CORI and Drug Testing requirements.
- Demonstrated understanding of, and committed to adhering to, federal and state policies (42 CFR Part 2, HIPAA).
- Strong clinical assessment skills and familiarity with psychiatric nursing protocols.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Experience or interest in working with underserved populations and individuals with substance use disorders.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in substance use disorder treatment or a related behavioral health setting.
- Valid Massachusetts license as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNPBC).
- Current DEA registration.
- Current CPR certification.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, or crouch, and lift or move up to 10 pounds.
- Outpatient behavioral health clinic serving individuals with substance use and cooccurring disorders.
- Potential exposure to infectious diseases such as Hepatitis B, HIV, and Tuberculosis.
