Manager - Campus Store (Exempt)

Job Summary: The Campus Store Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the campus store. This role involves managing inventory, supervising staff, ensuring excellent customer service, and coordinating with faculty and vendors to meet the academic needs of students. The manager will also develop and implement strategies to maximize sales and profitability while maintaining a welcoming and efficient store environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Course Material Inventory Management:
- Receive and stock textbooks and academic materials.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure accurate inventory records.
- Work with Course Materials team to coordinate with faculty to confirm textbook requirements and timelines.
- Manage buyback programs and used book inventories.
- Merchandise & Sales Management:
- Develop and implement effective merchandising strategies to maximize sales and improve store layout.
- Ensure that products are displayed in a way that is visually appealing and aligns with the store’s branding.
- Work with the team to maintain appropriate stock levels and manage product availability.
- Analyze sales trends and make necessary adjustments to product placement and inventory.
- Staff Supervision:
- Recruit, train, and supervise store staff, including scheduling and performance management.
- Foster a positive work environment and promote teamwork and professional development.
- Conduct regular staff meetings to communicate policies, procedures, and sales goals.
- Delegate tasks effectively and ensure team members understand their roles and duties for the day.
- Customer Service:
- Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction through effective service and problem resolution.
- Handle escalated customer inquiries and complaints in a professional manner.
- Implement customer service training programs for staff.
- Regularly assess customer satisfaction and identify opportunities for service improvement.
- Sales and Marketing:
- Develop and execute sales strategies to meet or exceed revenue targets.
- Plan and implement marketing campaigns and promotions to drive store traffic.
- Analyze sales data and market trends to identify opportunities for growth.
- Financial Management:
- Prepare and manage the store's budget, including forecasting and financial reporting.
- Monitor expenses and implement cost-saving measures without compromising service quality.
- Ensure compliance with all financial policies and procedures.
- Operational Excellence:
- Supervise and manage daily store operations, ensuring smooth and efficient processes.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe store environment.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and security regulations.
- Optimize store layout and merchandising for maximum efficiency and appeal.
- Technology Utilization:
- Utilize point-of-sale systems and inventory management software effectively.
- Implement and oversee online textbook ordering and digital resource integration.
- Special Event and Athletic Events Operations
- Oversee retail operations and product sales at special events and designated athletic events, ensuring that merchandise is displayed effectively and readily available for customers.
- Coordinate with school leadership to determine event schedule and timelines.
- Manage staff assignments and ensure team members are trained on event-specific procedures, including handling large crowds, managing quick transactions, and maintaining a positive fan experience.
- Troubleshoot any issues that arise during events, from customer concerns to operational challenges, and resolve them efficiently.
- Track event-specific sales and report findings to adjust future merchandising and staffing strategies for subsequent events.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3-5 years of retail management experience, preferably in a bookstore or academic environment.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in inventory management and point-of-sale systems.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Financial acumen and experience managing budgets.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, especially during peak times (e.g., start of semesters).
