AMHERST Health Inspector Enforces Board of Health regulations and the

State Sanitary Code, as well as related portions of the Town Bylaws.

Provides assistance and advice to applicants for health licenses and

permits. Performs inspections, issues orders for violations of health

regulations, and helps to facilitate the remediation of violations.

MAJOR DUTIES: Acts as an agent of the Board of Health, enforcing its

policies and regulations, and issuing related orders; Enforces related

Town Bylaws as appropriate. Reviews new food establishment applications

for compliance with relevant portions of the Massachusetts State

Sanitary Code; Provides information and advice on meeting regulatory

requirements to license and permit applicants. Makes inspections

pursuant to the issuance and renewal of health licenses and permits for

a variety of establishments, including food handling establishments,

retail food outlets, refuse collection and disposal entities, private

sewage disposal entities, and swimming pool construction and operation

businesses. Enforces the State Sanitary Code (Chapter IV) for

recreational camps, through review of applications, and pre-opening and

routine inspections of camps. Enforces the State Housing Code (Chapter I

and II) through routine and scheduled inspections of identified housing

units. Responds to housing complaints; Performs inspections of premises

and documents findings; Issues orders to remedy identified violations.

Responds to complaints related to environmental health matters, such as

those involving water supply, water pollution, private sewage disposal,

food handling, solid waste disposal, air, and noise; Performs

inspections of premises and documents findings; Issues orders to remedy

identified violations. Coordinates with necessary parties, including

other Town Inspectors and Town staff, property owners, and contractors

to help facilitate the remediation of violations of health regulations.

Performs other duties as assigned or appropriate, including enforcement

of other chapters of the State Sanitary Code. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor\'s Degree in public health, environmental sciences or related

field, PLUS two (2) years of field inspection experience; OR any

equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating the

ability to successfully perform the duties of the position. Valid

Massachusetts Driver\'s License Excellent interpersonal and

communication skills Ability to write a comprehensive and detailed

report Ability to organize and prioritize workload Ability to work

effectively in a complex organizational environment For more details and
