Position Overview

We’re seeking exceptional individuals who are interested in working at the intersection of Commercial and Product Strategy in Private and Growth Equity. Qualified individuals' experience may include buy-side or sell-side M&A, product strategy and go-to-market strategy within Software as a Service or tech-enabled businesses, or commercial diligence.


As a Consultant, you will work with both our private equity sponsor teams and company executives to define, de-risk, and deliver value creation opportunities in their software-driven portfolio companies. You will be responsible for leading our strategy work streams with customers, from discovery interviews with critical stakeholders and consumers, generating quality and differentiated insights, and synthesizing your discoveries.


This role requires strong product strategy acumen, including experience defining product visions, roadmaps, and monetization models that align with business goals and market demands. You will be expected to assess product-market fit, evaluate feature-level opportunities, and advise on build/buy/partner decisions within the context of broader value creation strategies.


AI is a critical dimension of your work, both as a tool to enhance discovery, accelerate synthesis, and elevate the precision of your work, and as a key lever for product strategy. You will help clients identify where and how AI can be embedded in their platforms to create leverage and reshape their competitive dynamics, and familiarity with AI technologies in this context (e.g., embedding AI in client products, using AI for new feature ideation, or as a business model inflection point) is highly valued.


Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to strategy engagements focused on defining commercial and platform clarity across product, pricing, packaging, messaging, and distribution.
  • Synthesize customer insights, market signals, and internal business dynamics to identify high-leverage value creation opportunities.
  • Design and guide the execution of core workstreams, including voice of customer analysis, competitive landscape assessments, roadmap prioritization, customer segmentation, pricing architecture, and GTM readiness planning.
  • Develop structured, compelling deliverables: narratives, visuals, and frameworks that inform executive decision-making and boardroom alignment.
  • Apply structured frameworks to evaluate product scalability, adoption potential, and competitive differentiation across customer segments.
  • Use AI tools to accelerate and expand discovery, scenario modeling, segmentation, and insight development while applying Thinktiv’s strategic frameworks and methodology to ensure clarity, consistency, and actionable output across client work.
  • Lead strategic workshops and discussions with C-level executives and private equity partners to align on key assumptions, business priorities, and transformation paths.
  • Oversee coordination of workstreams to ensure unified outputs across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Manage day-to-day activities of Analysts to ensure timely, high-quality delivery.
  • Contribute to Thinktiv’s internal IP development, operational improvements, and business development efforts.


Requirements

  • 5 - 7 years of experience in management consulting, corporate M&A deal analysis/support, preferably in digitally native software environments
  • 3+ years of experience in product strategy or go-to-market strategy for SaaS / software-enabled mid-market sized businesses (~$30 million - $300 million in annual revenue)
  • Experience in product management bringing new products to market is a plus
  • Ability to translate customer insights and business objectives into actionable product strategies and scalable growth plans
  • Deep experience performing market analyses, market sizing estimations, and competitive analyses
  • Track record of value creation and leadership in current and/or previous roles
  • Demonstrated use of AI tools to improve strategic workflows, such as research, synthesis, scenario modeling, or presentation development
  • Demonstrated experience assessing and applying AI in the context of product design, operational leverage, and competitive positioning within client portfolios
  • Fully capable of handling complex, extended client engagements with multiple moving parts and stakeholders
  • Experience managing projects that require thinking holistically, identifying and resolving key strategic challenges, and delivering against tight deadlines
  • Analytical skills and a capacity to conduct sophisticated analyses of both quantitative and qualitative information
  • Able to quickly understand and apply market dynamics to previously unfamiliar spaces and generate new ideas and/or theses based on research and market understanding
  • Excellent writing, editing and oral communication skills; ability to organize and present complex information in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to build relationships at all levels of an organization, often in complex and sensitive environments
  • Diplomatic, broad-minded, flexible, curious and detail-oriented
  • Located in or willing to relocate Boston
