The Town of Ashland is seeking qualified applicants for the Assistant Town Planner. As the Assistant Town Planner, you’ll play a key role in the day-to-day operations of our Planning Department. Working under the supervision of the Director of Planning & Economic Development your primary responsibilities will be as follows:
Implementation of planning operations to achieve goals using available resources;
Development of short- and long-range plans;
Supporting the Town Planner with professional planning and land-use advice to Planning Board members and other officials;
Evaluating land-use proposals for conformity with established plans and bylaws and to ensure compliance with applicable Town, State or Federal laws;
Resolving complex and sensitive customer service issues for residents, developers, and the general public;
Coordination of planning consultant contracts, including engineering plan review, construction inspection, and public infrastructure and environmental reviews;
Clerical management of the Planning Division’s budget and financial accounts
Providing support to the Zoning Board of Appeals;
Staffing Town committee projects like the Upper Charles Trail and Open Space, as assigned.
The Assistant Town Planner should have a Bachelor’s degree in urban and/or regional planning, public policy, or public administration, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal relations and effective oral and writing skills, and a basic knowledge of the procedural aspects of planning, zoning, and other land use regulations.
Annual Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000
