About the Role

Deans at Masters Academy International are full-time mentors whose responsibility is the social-emotional well-being and academic success of their student-athletes. Working closely with faculty and acting as a point of contact for parents, Deans ensure that students are fully supported and appropriately challenged as they navigate the unique demands of balancing elite athletics with rigorous academics. In the Upper Grades, Deans also provide comprehensive college and career counseling, helping student-athletes navigate the college search and application process with confidence and clarity, particularly as they consider opportunities to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level.

As an Upper Grades Dean, you will serve as the primary advocate and mentor for an assigned group of student-athletes during their pivotal high school years. You'll guide students in shaping their narratives as both scholars and athletes, making strategic academic and career choices, and building compelling profiles for college—all while supporting their social-emotional development and partnering closely with families throughout the journey.

What You Will Do

Student Support & Mentorship

● Serve as primary mentor and advocate for an assigned caseload of approximately 100 upper-grade student-athletes

● Host Dean’s meetings with your assigned UG students to build community, address shared challenges, and support peer connection

● Monitor and support students' academic progress and social-emotional development through regular one-on-one and small group meetings

● Implement and maintain Personal Learning Plans (PLPs) for advisees, partnering with families to set strengths-focused, personalized goals that account for both athletic and academic commitments

● Utilize Collaborative Problem Solving approaches to identify lagging skills and develop targeted support plans

● Collaborate with teachers on Presentations of Learning (POLs) that empower student voice and reflection

● Support students in navigating the demands of balancing elite athletic training with academic excellence during the high-stakes college preparation years

● Work closely with interdisciplinary teachers, coaching staff, Student Support Team (SST) personnel, and other faculty to coordinate comprehensive student support

College and Career Counseling

● Guide student-athletes through the college search, selection, and application process with individualized support that considers both academic fit and athletic opportunities

● Conduct individual and group college counseling sessions that build student confidence, strategic thinking, and self-advocacy skills

● Support students in course selection decisions aligned with their college, career, and athletic aspirations, ensuring they understand how their choices impact future opportunities

● Help students shape their narrative early and strategically utilize MAI programs and resources to build compelling portfolios and profiles that showcase both their academic and athletic achievements

● Provide a comprehensive program and support throughout all stages of the college application process, including essay development, recommendation coordination, application strategy, and decision-making

● Build and maintain relationships with college admissions representatives and coaches to deepen their understanding of MAI and our student-athletes

● Coordinate college visits, information sessions, and application workshops that expand student horizons and demystify the college search process

● Provide guidance on the athletic recruitment process where appropriate, in collaboration with coaching staff, helping students understand NCAA eligibility, recruitment timelines, and communication with college coaches

● Facilitate career exploration activities and conversations that help students connect their academic interests, athletic pursuits, and future professional goals

● Support students in identifying and pursuing meaningful summer experiences, internships, and extracurricular opportunities that align with their college and career aspirations

Family Partnership

● Act as the primary point of contact for families regarding their child's academic, social-emotional, and college planning needs

● Communicate regularly and proactively with families about student progress, challenges, and college planning milestones

● Facilitate family events and communications that demystify the college process—including athletic recruitment considerations—and strengthen partnership

● Conduct family conferences throughout the college planning journey that align expectations, address concerns, and celebrate progress

● Provide families with resources and guidance to support students through the often complex and stressful college application and decision-making process

Who You Are

● You have experience as a high school counselor, advisor, or dean, with a demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships with students and families during high-stakes transitions

● You hold a degree in school counseling, clinical mental health counseling, educational psychology, social work, or a related field, with demonstrated expertise in adolescent development

● You bring deep knowledge of the college admissions landscape and extensive experience guiding students through the application process, including demonstrated expertise in college counseling best practices, admissions trends, and post-secondary pathways

● You have proven ability to support students in crafting compelling personal narratives, developing strong applications, and making informed college and career decisions

● Familiarity with the athletic recruitment process and NCAA eligibility requirements is a plus, but not required

● You have several years of teaching experience in one or more academic disciplines, with a demonstrated ability to design and facilitate interdisciplinary learning experiences

● You understand or are eager to learn about the unique demands facing student-athletes and can support them in developing balance and resilience

● You bring a strong sense of ownership and responsibility for student success and well-being

● You embody humility—you recognize that growth occurs through relationships, value collaboration over individual recognition, and actively seek feedback from students, families, and colleagues

● You demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning by actively seeking new knowledge, refining practice, and embracing innovation rather than settling for the status quo

● You demonstrate courage—you face challenges directly, act with integrity, and are willing to take thoughtful risks in service of your students' learning and growth

● You can set priorities in a changing environment. A history of appropriately prioritizing work in an environment where the needs of the organization and students are evolving

● You display sound judgment, adaptability, and curiosity, approaching new ideas and situations with an open and learning-oriented mindset

● You use technology purposefully to enhance learning, collaboration, and communication

Compensation and Benefits

The salary, as a full time equivalent, is $100,000 depending on experience. Benefits for eligible roles include medical, dental, life insurance, 401(k) savings plan, and more.
